At a glance:

UNDP supports the country in three key areas:

  1. Democratic Governance: to strengthen institutions and develop the skills of public administrators to design policies and deliver better services for all. UNDP also promotes citizen participation in decision making to increase responsiveness and accountability in Governance;
  2. Social Inclusion: to supports national efforts that improve the social and economic standing of individuals and groups at risk of exclusion. UNDP does this through providing knowledge for inclusive policymaking and reforms; developing national capacities to expand employment opportunities and access to services for all;
  3. Environment: To strengthen the policy framework for environmental management and sustainable development, while facilitating a better environment on the ground. UNDP Helps decision makers to incorporate action against pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change into the work of their institutions. Investing today promotes people’s health, food security, and quality of life but could also deliver financial benefits in the future;

UNDP:

  • provides policy support documents, such as the National Human Development Report
  • helps to build national capacities to use aid effectively
  • has around 20 ongoing projects that are being carried out throughout the country. All of them are based on the human rights principles, promoting the advancement of women and social inclusion of the vulnerable.
  • has as an underlying principle 'helping people to help themselves’ and thus centers its work around capacity building
  • is the scorekeeper of the Millennium Development Goals, assisting the country in finding innovative ways of ensuring that all citizens can participate in economic, social and civil life
  • Manages the Resident Coordination System that brings together all UN agencies. The UNDP Resident Representative is also the UN Resident Coordinator.
