Gjulfidan, Rabija, Fatima, and some other fifty Roma women from the Gazi Baba Municipality in Skopje could not hide their feelings while watching the new documentary on domestic violence, “The Future Today”, developed by the UN Programme on Preventing Domestic Violence. “It portrays our reality” they say in a chorus. Domestic violence is a crime that often remains hidden within the walls of one’s home. “Even if we face domestic violence, we wouldn’t speak about it”, says Suzana, one of the participants. “The perpetrator might be punished, sent to jail, but what will happen when he comes out? Where will I go then?” This is only one of the fears and questions women victims of violence face daily.
