United Nations in The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

The United Nations is central to global efforts to solve problems that challenge humanity. Cooperating in this effort are more than 30 affiliated organizations, known together as the UN system. Day in and day out, the UN and its family of organizations work to promote respect for human rights, protect the environment, improve global security, fight disease and reduce poverty throughout the world.

Today in FYR Macedonia, we have 12 organizations forming the extended UN family: UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, WHO, IOM, World Bank, IMF, UNAIDS , UNFPA , ILO, UNIFEM and UNMIK. All of them are engaged in a broad range of  activities aiming to benefit all persons living in the country. Our website aims to effectively share information on some of these activities with the wider audience, to acknowledge our partners and further promote our joint achievements.

At the World Summit held this September 2005 in New York, FYR Macedonia was one of the 189 countries which once again reiterated its commitment to the Millennium Declaration and pledged to achieve the eight Millennium Development Goals. These goals, in the area of poverty, education, health, gender and environment have to be met by 2015. This means that we have only five more years left to make FYR Macedonia a better place for all. A place with less people living in poverty, more children in school, more people living healthy lives and all enjoying a protected environment.

The UN System in FYR Macedonia intends to keep the promise and we are counting on all of you to do the same.
