At a glance:
WHO supports the Government in the planning and implementation process of reforms in the field of health.
Works towards the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health, which as defined by the WHO Constitution is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity“.
Together with the Ministry of Health works on the implementation of programmes in the following areas: - Health Policy and System Development
- Pharmaceuticals
- Communicable Disease Surveillance
- Mental Health and Substance Abuse
- Mother and Child Health (including Gender Mainstreaming)
- Environment and Health (with emphasis on Occupational Health)
- Disaster Preparedness and Response
- Food Safety
- HIV/AIDS
- Disability
Assists the Government in developing national strategies and action plans in: general health policy, mental health, pharmacy, nursing, HIV/AIDS, tobacco control, alcohol consumption control, environment and health, food and nutrition, occupational health, and tuberculosis.
Provides technical support in addressing a wide range of health topics, such as immunization, vaccination of newborns against hepatitis B, poliomyelitis eradication, anti-stigma campaigns for inclusion of different vulnerable groups, and the promotion of many “healthy life” activities.
Has had a range of different training during all these years in-country, while also carrying out regional and international activities in order to support the process of national professional capacity building.
